The local people are really good motorcycle riders, at least if compared to the city folks. This might be because of the verticality and the winding properties of the roads (just like Finnish rally drivers).
They are very fast and precise even at night when it is pitch dark. One night I was riding fast (some 60-80km/h, it was dark so I don't dare to go faster.) to get to a place on time and there was a guy tailing right behind me for kilometers. He was riding a scooter that is not built for speed or corners, contrary to my motorcycle that is built for both of those scenarios. He eventually passed me and sped up. Crazy.
There are no lighting in most roads so people are forced to use their high beam. The locals are very aware of this. They turn off their high beam for a moment once they are about to pass other vehicles on the opposite lane, I think this is very nice. Meanwhile the people in the city unconsciously turn on high beam all the time, I think this is very stupid.
The way how the city people ride motorcycle irritates me more after I came back from Gunungkidul.
